Bushnell Brown Bread

Total Time: 4 hrs Preparation Time: 3 hrs Cook Time: 1 hr

Ingredients

  • 8 cups flour
  • 8 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1/4 cup lard
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 4 -5 tablespoons salt
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 2 -3 cups lukewarm water
  • 2 (4 tablespoon) envelopes dry yeast

Recipe

  • 1 proof the yeast in 1 cup of warm water for 10 minutes.
  • 2 cut the lard into the dry ingregients.
  • 3 make a well and add the yeast mixture and molasses.
  • 4 add the water a little at a time until you have a pliable dough.
  • 5 knead on a lightly floured board for several minutes.
  • 6 allow to rise until double, placing in a greased covered bowl.
