Colonial Brown Bread

Ingredients
- 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour or 2 3/4 cups unbleached flour
- 2 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
- 2 cups firmly packed brown sugar
- 2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 4 cups buttermilk (to substitute for buttermilk, use 1/4 cup vinegar or lemon juice plus milk to make 4 cups)
Recipe
- 1 preheat oven to 350°f.
- 2 grease two 9x5 inch loaf pans.
- 3 in large bowl combine all the dry ingredients.
- 4 mix well, until thoroughly combined.
- 5 slowly add buttermilk to bowl, stirring until well blended.
- 6 pour into loaf pans.
- 7 bake for 50 minutes, or until toothpick inserted into center comes out clean.
- 8 remove from pans immediately and cool on wire rack.
