Common Gingerbread

Ingredients

  • Servings: 9
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon mace
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon allspice

Recipe

  • 1 combine butter, molasses, brown sugar, and buttermilk in a medium saucepan over low heat. heat until butter is melted and remove from heat. when cool, beat in egg.
  • 2 in a bowl, combine flour, baking soda, spices and salt; fold into moist ingredients.
  • 3 turn into a greased and floured 9-inch cake pan and bake in the middle of a preheated 350 f oven for 30 minutes or until a tester comes out clean.
  • 4 cool before serving.
